Telling stories in seconds and sound bites

Who I am and what I do are the same thing

Picture
I work hard, plain and simple.  I am passionate about telling stories, and I believe in making a difference. For almost a decade, I've done it with a TV camera -- crafting sound, words, and moments into stories for the world to see.  The product of two farm children, I know the value of a hard day's work and honesty.  I bring those values to everything I do.  (I try to have fun at the same time.)

I pride myself on making characters shine.  The first time I learned this was in college -- two garbage men helped save a family from a mobile home fire.  (One asked me out for coffee after my live shot.  I politely declined.)  Ever since, I've learned I am not the story -- people are.  Whether it's a small town memorializing something that happened 30 years ago, or a teenager who makes a difference because of her death -- I look for ways to make the story's characters impact a larger audience.  After all, why tell a story that only affects two people?  I want to tell stories that impact thousands, in ways they may not even know -- yet.

I have experience as a TV photographer (I'm bad), editor (better), anchor, and reporter (my strength).  I define myself by my work ethic.  I don't think that's a bad thing.

Why I built this website

I married my college sweetheart, and he moved to Wichita for me and my job.  In the summer of 2011, I moved to Kansas City for his job.  In this age of social media and technology, it makes sense to have your own website, right?  I'm slow to join, but quick to learn.  More than anything, I'm eager to have a job that makes me smile, and feel like I'm making a difference, every single day.
